Puppy fever

Published by aarp11 at 9:26 pm under blog Edit This

Lately I’ve definitely had puppy fever in anticipation of the poodle pup we’ll be getting near the end of May. Even though that is over four months away, I have no doubt that time will go faster than expected. And, there is a lot that needs to be done before he gets here. I was making a list today of the things I need to buy for the new puppy. It’s quite a long list.

Like I said in my last post, the puppy we will be getting is the descendant of a lot of champion standard poodles. Not only does he have a champion bloodline, but his great grandsire was the best in breed at Westminster for two years in a row! I couldn’t believe it when the breeder told me this. Fortunately, poodle pedigrees are consistently documented through a website called poodlepedigree.com. So, I checked the parents’ pedigrees, and sure enough it was true. His parents have also been health tested (hips, thyroid, eyes), which is good since there are many standard poodles who have health problems if they aren’t bred correctly. They also have relatively low COIs, which means that they aren’t inbred like some poodles. I think overall we are going to get a wonderful puppy.

I think I might even get the first pick of the males in the litter. I was apparently the first to want a male out of the three people who have put down a deposit so far. How exciting is that?!
